Keyless Entry and Smart Thermostats

Oak Island Accommodations offers complimentary keyless entry and smart thermostats to all our vacation rental property owners. Approximately 91 percent of our homeowners already offer this smart home technology package as part of their amenities. With the convenience of keyless entry, guests can head straight to the vacation rental at check-in time. Less time in our office means more beach time! The smart thermostats allow OIA staff to remotely control the thermostats, a benefit that could result in energy savings during periods when there are no reservations or blocks on the property.

Property owners interested in the keyless entry feature will need one lock for the main entrance and will also need a lock on any ground level doors that provide access to an elevator. The number of smart thermostats needed will correspond to the current number of thermostats that you currently have in your vacation rental.

Once a new install is complete, an infinity code is emailed to the property owner. This infinity code does not expire and should be guarded like any password. Oak Island Accommodations does not recommend sharing this infinity code with owner guests. Instead, a unique owner guest code will generate for each owner guest reservation made with our office.

Similarly, all outside vendors will receive a unique code. OIA will provide these codes to private cleaners whose information is on file at the time of new installations. Any property owner who makes a change in their private cleaner or employs a private cleaner after installation is complete will need to contact OIA’s housekeeping department so the appropriate deactivation or activation of a cleaner code can be completed.

Property owners who already have their own smart thermostats should note that OIA-provided smart thermostats are controlled by OIA staff only. We are not able to provide remote access to property owners to the smart thermostat controls.

An important note to owners who plan to sell their vacation rental: if you are an owner who currently has an OIA provided keyless lock and/or smart thermostat at your vacation rental, then it is important to note that these items will not convey with the sale of your vacation rental property as their operation is tied to software licensed by OIA. It is imperative that you make your real estate agent aware of this and that it is noted in the listing. Contact the Oak Island Accommodations maintenance department to schedule a time when these locks can be removed prior to your real estate closing.

Wi-Fi Router and Vacation Attendant Guest Portal

New routers, better speed and quality Wi-Fi! This program provides a complimentary router to you and your guests so everyone can enjoy Wi-Fi and the benefits of Vacation Attendant. The Vacation Attendant pops up when a guest logs in to the Wi-Fi at the property. Guests will see a customized page for your property that provides a place to contact OIA for any housekeeping or maintenance issues. From this portal, guests can also rebook your property! For participating properties, Silicon Travel provides internet support to OIA guests and property owners. This support will address many of the Wi-Fi and technical support issues reported by guests. Every connection is secured with a wireless password unless specified by the homeowner. The password is displayed on material that is left in the home for the guest to reference. This program is only available to properties with an existing internet service provider (Spectrum, AT&T, etc.).

Please note that if you already have a sophisticated Wi-Fi system installed at your home that provides parental safety controls, remote access, or other similar functions, these same controls may not be available with the router provided through this program. In addition, property owners will need to return all complimentary routers to OIA should they ever choose to sell the home or no longer offer the vacation rental through OIA.
