Mandatory Evacuation Orders Issued for Visitors to Caswell Beach and Oak Island

The Towns of Caswell Beach and Oak Island have each declared a state of emergency effective at noon on Tuesday, September 3, 2019. These declarations include mandatory evacuation orders for all visitors. If you are a guest currently staying with Oak Island Accommodations, then you will need to make plans to vacate your rental by 12 noon on Tuesday.

The Town of Oak Island states “we cannot say yet if or when the bridges will close – it will depend on the conditions as the storm approaches and passes by the coast. Please check our updated re-entry plan on our website.

Voluntary evacuation orders for property owners and residents also begin at noon on Tuesday. The Town of Caswell Beach states these orders are “recommended for residents in low-lying areas, or who may have concerns about the stability and safety of their structure or their ability to leave, if necessary, during the storm due to flooding, road closures and scattered debris.”

The Oak Island Accommodations staff will continue to prepare vacation rentals and our office building ahead of the storm today and on Tuesday.
