Beach Cycling

Health:

Most everyone knows how essential it is to exercise your body and cycling is a great way to do that. Just a few things that it has been known to help with, is improved heart health, fat loss, cancer prevention, and more. Not only can it improve your physical health, it’s also been scientifically proven to increase brain power. A research from the University of Illinois showed that just a 5% increase in cardio-respiratory activity from cycling led to an improvement of up to 15% in mental tests, all because riding a bike helps build new brain cells.

Happiness:

Alongside increasing physical and mental health, cycling has been proven to better your mood. Neurologists at the University of Bonn studied endorphins in the brains and after comparing the pre and post-session scans, they found evidence of more binding of happy hormones in the areas of the brain that are known to be involved with the emotional process and dealing with stress. According to the study co-coordinator Professor Henning Boecker of Germany, this means that “There’s a direct link between feelings of wellbeing and exercise, and for the first time this study proves the physiological mechanism behind that.”

History:

The origins of the bicycle are shrouded in mystery and it is not possible to attribute its invention to any single person. Still, what is clear is that the early ancestors of the modern bicycle were in use by the early 1800s. In 1817, Charles, Baron von Drais, of Sauerbrun, devised a front wheel capable of being steered and was the first practically used bicycle. The term bicycle was coined in France in the 1860s.

Brunswick County and surrounding areas offer plenty of options to keep any cyclist happy.
