Though dogs enjoy being outside, the summer heat can be dangerous. Make sure you bring plenty of water for your dog to drink, and never leave your pets inside a vehicle. If your dog is swimming in the ocean, remember that rip currents can be dangerous for pets, as well as for people. Supervise your pet at all times to ensure they are not interfering with nesting birds, sea turtles and other wildlife that may be found on the Oak Island beaches.
Area Rules & Regulations
Though dogs are welcome on Oak Island and Caswell Beaches during any time of the day, there are leash laws that state all dogs must be on a leash at all times. Please be respectful of others and clean up after your pet. Pet disposal bags are provided for your convenience at each beach access point.
If you lose your pet or find someone’s lost pet, contact the Oak Island Town Hall at (910) 278-5011 or the Oak Island Police Department at (910) 278-5595.
