For many the roar of thunder and the pounding of rain falling against the roof was a welcome sound this morning, bringing relief from an abnormally dry summer in Brunswick County. But for many vacationers, rain can put a damper on a fun-filled getaway.

Don’t let some rain drops stop your fun! Take a break from the beach and head out for some rainy day fun at the library, movie theater, museum or arcade.

Peer through the new periscope, listen to weather forecasts on a marine radio and explore the vast nautical history of our area at the NC Maritime Museum in Southport. The museum, located at 204 E Moore Street, has an extensive collection of delicate ship models and even details Gentleman Pirate Stede Bonnet’s pleas for clemency. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Admission is free. For more information call 910.457.0003.

If you are up for a drive, Planet Fun in Shallotte is Brunswick County’s largest family entertainment center. There are 32 lanes for bowling, a 2-story laser tag arena and redemption arcade.
