Oak Island is a family destination, and Oak Island Accommodations offer many pet-friendly homes that welcome Oak Island Pets. A variety of activities are available in Oak Island that your pet (and the rest of your family) will love! Your dog will love taking a swim in the ocean or waterway or taking a walk on the beach. A variety of public parks and dockside walkways also welcome your four-legged friends. Supervise your Oak Island Pets at all times to ensure they are not interfering with nesting birds, sea turtles or other wildlife that may be found on Oak Island Beaches.

>OIA PET POLICY: Pet properties accept only dogs. Other types of live animals are strictly prohibited. One pet up to 60 lbs is permitted per property. Additional pets and pets over 60 lbs must receive prior approval from the owner. A non-refundable $100.00 pet fee is required if a pet is involved. An additional $50.00 is required for each additional pet if accepted by the Owner. If pets are discovered in a property that does not allow pets, there will be a $200.00 charge to the tenant as well as mandatory removal of the pet from the property. If more than the permitted number of pets is discovered in a property, appropriate fees will be levied as well as the mandatory removal of the additional pets. Noncompliance with these conditions could result in the implementation of the expedited eviction procedures pursuant to NCGS 42A-24. [See section I, paragraph (27)]  The tenant will also be liable for any damages to the property or lost rent. There is no guarantee on the part of OIA that non-pet properties are completely pet free.

Area Regulations

Caswell Beach:

  • Walking on or over sand dunes, sandbags or beach vegetation by persons or pets is prohibited.
  • Dogs must be on a leash –  Summer exception: Dawn – 9:00AM may be allowed off-leash on the beach only while under adult owner’s strict supervision and control.
  • You must carry and use plastic bags to scoop up after your pet.

Oak Island:

  • Dogs must be on a leash –  Exception October 15th to March 15th: 6AM – 9:00AM may be allowed off-leash on the beach only while under adult owner’s strict supervision and control.
  • You must carry and use plastic bags to scoop up after your pet.
