Dining
When you decide to spend your vacation in southeastern North Carolina you are probably thinking of the picturesque beaches, beautiful weather, championship golf, and loads of fun this corner of the world has to offer. What you may not know is that this area offers a myriad of dining choices, nearly all of which are locally owned and operated. Whether you want to indulge in fresh local seafood, enjoy a meal that is fun for the whole family, or share a romantic dinner overlooking the beautiful Atlantic Ocean, the Oak Island restaurants have something for everyone.
One of the best parts about the local dining experience is the vast array of food available in close proximity to the beaches. If you are looking for down home country cooking, Russell’s, Edna’s Kitchen, and PJ’s offer delicious breakfasts and lunches, served Southern-style with a heaping side of local "knowledge." Don’t miss the hash browns at Taylor’s or everything on the left side of the menu at Turtle Island, a local favorite.
If you prefer your food in trays, Lucky Fisherman and Golden Corral provide a mouth-watering dilemma and something for every taste in the family. Maybe international taste delights are more your flavor. Not to worry; Oak Island and Southport are your passports. Thai Peppers and Thai by the Sea serve up amazing appetizers and delectable dishes you can’t pronounce. China Garden and China Buffet provide a much-needed outlet for those of us opposed to forks (oh, and the food is delicious, too!). Joseph’s and Bella Cucina take your taste buds on an evening-long trip through Italy, from the amazing wines and pastas to Veal Parmesan that would make Don Corleone weep.
And just when you realize you just can’t do without the classics, it’s Southport restaurants to the rescue! Within less than one mile of each other is all you ever need when it comes to the food you can always depend on – chain restaurants! It is literally a fast food lover’s paradise to stand at the epicenter where you can turn in one long, slow circle and salivate over the same menus you’ve been looking at since before you could even read – McDonald’s, Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut, Subway, and Domino’s. Unfortunately, there is no camping available in this parking lot.
Or maybe you just want to spend a quiet evening out, enjoying a delicious meal with the one you love. West Bay is a steakhouse that literally sits on the waterway and provides spectacular views. The Pharmacy and Mr. P’s, both in downtown Southport, offer quiet, sophisticated elegance and some of the best food you will ever put in your mouth.
If you are up for an adventure before you eat, enjoy the ferry to Bald Head Island restaurants. Take the scenic fifteen-minute ferry ride from Southport and you are just steps away from Eb and Flo’s Steakhouse or the River Pilot. Both restaurants sit on the Bald Head Island Marina and offer outdoor dining with breathtaking views of Southport, the ocean, and some truly beautiful boats.
Whether you are looking for Oak Island restaurants, Southport restaurants or Bald Head Island restaurants, when you choose Oak Island and Southport as your vacation destination, you are in for many treats, not the least of which is the spectacular food. And don’t forget, all the entrees are served with a side of Southern charm.
