Southport Historical Attractions The Old Brunswick County Jail Corner of Rhett & Nash Street Southport, NC 28461
Located in Southport across from the Olde Smithville Burying Ground * Built in 1904, the jail was built to replace the old city jail, which was destroyed by fire * The jail is a two-story brick building which includes two cells, constructed of flat iron bars wrapped together, Each of the two jail cells includes four bunks, There is also a runabout on the second floor of the jail * The jail was used until 1971 when a new jail was built to the rear * The Southport Historical Society has maintained the old jail since 1984 Wilmington Historical Attractions Battleship North Carolina Battleship Road HWY 421 Wilmington, NC 28404 (910) 251-5797
Hours of Operation: May 16th - September 15th 8am - 8pm September 16th - May 15th 8am - 5pm Last ticket sold one hour before closing, please allow two hours to tour the Battleship. (Accept Cash, Visa and/or Master Card. Reservations suggested for groups of 20 or more.

The walls of St. Philips Church (1768) and the foundation of the home of royal governors Arthur Dobbs and William Tryon, are the featured archaeological remains * Numerous other residential foundations of the colonial period are also displayed * The walls of Confederate Ft. Anderson are also visible * The visitor center features an audiovisual program that tells the story of Brunswick Town and Ft. Anderson * Trails through the site * outdoor exhibits that tell the history of the colonial town, the exposed foundations, and Fort Anderson * The visitor center and rest rooms are fully handicap accessible, the trails are accessible with some assistance * Tables are available on the grounds. * A gift shop, located in the visitor center, has numerous items related to the colonial and Civil War eras * Guided tours are available for scheduled groups; otherwise self-guided tour maps are available for visitors * No admission fees * Donations are accepted!
