Fire Hydrant Testing

Tuesday, November 20, 2012 - by OIA Staff
Beginning Monday, November 26, 2012, Oak Island Fire and Rescue will begin testing hydrants throughout Oak Island. The testing will occur Monday through Thursday each week until Thursday, December 20, 2012.
During the testing, OKI Fire and Rescue will open each hydrant, flush for approximately 30 seconds, take a static pressure reading and then shut down the hydrant.

Residents and visitors should see little impact from the hydrant testing. The most noticeable effect will be standing water on the street and in some lawns and driveways for a minimal amount of time. The town also stated that the testing should not affect water pressure.
