Katie Stuart, a local historian dressed in an antebellum mourning gown with oil lantern, will be the guide on a historical ghost walk. Meet Katie at the Southport waterfront on October 30th & 31st at 7:30 p.m. for the haunted ghost walk to the Old Smithville Burying Ground and the old jail. Long Bay Artificial Reef Association (L.B.A.R.A.) is working to establish a new artificial reef approximately 2.5 miles off shore in the vicinity of 1600 block of East Beach Drive, Oak Island. There are currently eight artificial reefs off Brunswick County's shoreline. More...

The wastewater project will be completed in two phases. Phase 1, did not go as smoothly as expected, and consequently has fallen short of its deadline and is not yet complete. The Town of Oak Island is expecting to have phase 1 of the sewer ready for homes to connect to the main sewer lines within the next couple of months. More...

Coastal Recreational Fishing License (CRFL) are required if you are 16 years or older to fish in North Carolina public waters. There is a short-term10-day license, authorizing fishing in the coastal and joint waters during the 10-day period specified on the license, and annual license valid for 12 months. If you are planning to fish, be sure to get a license. Fines are steep, if you get a ticket for fishing without a CRFL. More...
