The Southport Visitors Center on Moore Street to get helpful information for your tour such as maps that provide you with all of the historic sites as well as brochures for the many activities in the area. Wilmington became the major port city of North Carolina because of its great location near the Atlantic Ocean and Cape Fear River. In addition to its major port industry, Wilmington also had a large shipbuilding center and produced pine forest products. Wilmington continues to be an active port city. The location of Wilmington near the Atlantic Ocean mixed with the unique culture and history found in the area draw thousands of tourists to the area each year. Enjoy a little bit of everything when you venture south to Myrtle Beach, SC. Shopping, wide beaches, live variety shows and numerous restaurants surround the area; you’re never far from music and amusements. Whether you are looking for fun for the family or a romantic night out, you’ll find a little bit of everything here. From the historic streets of Georgetown to the renowned seafood spots of Murrells Inlet to the neon lights of Myrtle Beach, The Grand Strand has enough to satisfy most every type of person. Because it is one of the few beaches in the area where you can drive on the beach, having your truck or sports utility vehicle on Carolina Beach while you are relaxing at the beach is invaluable. Saturday in the summer you will find a line of cars driving on the beach; it beats carrying everything out to the beach. There is no searching for a spot to put everything in the hot sand and you will always have a place to get under the shade if the sun proves too intense during the course of your stay at the beach. |
