Carolina Beach

Carolina Beach was established in 1857 and is the largest barrier island on the Cape Fear Coast. Carolina Beach offers the vacationer more of a taste of real North Carolinian society. Not every family has the ability to put a house on exclusive beaches in North Carolina such as Wrightsville Beach or Bald Head Island. Those communities represent an exclusive part of North Carolinian society. While Carolina Beach doesn’t lack nice homes or an exclusive section of hotels it retains rich local quality that other beaches in the area do not possess. Visiting Carolina beach promises an authentic southern North Carolina experience that you will remember forever, and want to duplicate every year.

There are plenty of activities to do on Carolina Beach or within a short drive from it. Walking downtown of the waterfront which is called Front Street should be on you vacation agenda when you come to Carolina Beach. Downtown Wilmington is a shopper’s paradise with plenty of clothing stores as well as places to get a souvenir to take home. Downtown Wilmington also offers historic landmarks to take a step back into the time when Wilmington was just making a foothold in the loose sand of the Carolinas.

The marketplace on the waterfront remains somewhat similar to the way it used to look with buildings like the Cotton Exchange that have be converted into a collection of different stores but kept the original building with a few modern amenities. The restored Battleship in downtown Wilmington is also a must for history lovers. You are actually able to walk all the way through the battle ship and get a look at all the same artillery and navigational equipment that soldiers used during World War II. If you have not been able to see a battle ship before from the Second World War, this is the perfect opportunity to do so. Anyone in your party will be able to remain very close by if they to do want to join you since the Battleship is right across the Cape Fear River from the historic Downtown area of Wilmington.

One of the most attractive things about Carolina Beach is that you are able to drive your vehicle on the strand when you go to the beach instead of having to walk there carrying everything on your person. If you have never gone to the beach in your car and tailgated while sunbathing you haven’t really lived yet. Carolina Beach is one of the few beaches in the area that you are able to drive on the beach because of erosion and beach conversion issues. Having your truck or sports utility vehicle on the strand while you are relaxing at the beach is invaluable. You don’t have to carry anything with you on your way to the beach. There is no searching for a spot to put everything in the hot sand and you will always have a place to get under the shade if the sun proves too intense during the course of your stay at the beach.
