LATEST OAK ISLAND NEWS Thursday, March 08, 2007- Almost 60 people showed up Saturday to help clear about five tons of rocks from Oak Island beaches during the Rock’N Party. Rocks still litter the beaches, and another rock picking is scheduled for April 14, probably in the morning. No experience is necessary to help the Oak Island Beach Preservation Society’s ongoing effort to make the beach rock-free. Tons of rocks appeared on the beaches during a sand nourishment project about five years ago. Individuals and groups are encouraged to organize their own rock-picking party, and are asked to take the rocks home or put them near the beach access points. The town public works department should then be notified where |
